I don't think this is resolvable without either being fixed by WiX Toolset or us completely rewriting the installer. And they've already shown very little interest in fixing this.

That said, WiX Toolset was eventually funded to fix the MSI hijacking issue that they initially dismissed, so it could happen.

What I'd *love* to see happen is some other group take up the responsibility for user-friendly Python distributions. If that happened, the installer could go back to being a trivial installer for admins, rather than trying to handle every user scenario perfectly (and leading to literal abuse and defamation towards our maintainers from "famous" people because of their faulty memories... okay, maybe that's just for me to get over on my own time...)
