Well, I can close this again - whatever was wrong with test_xml_etree_c disappeared - and a cursory look at test_os reveals that the issue might be the time lag between the NFS server where the temp files are made and the "local" sense of time.

Most of the time I do not have an issue, so closing as false positives.
