A change by mhettinger in the doc of Python 2 years ago implicitely stated a sequence of strings as preferred way to provide 'field_names' to a namedtuple: https://github.com/python/cpython/commit/7be6326e09f2062315f995a18ab54baedfd0c0ff Same change should be integrated in Python 3, I see no reason to prefer the single string version.
