No, it's the lack of reviewers in the first place that is slowing all
patches, not just this one.

I'm skeptical about this patch. We already have BASECFLAGS, and blindly
copying  @CFLAGS@ into CFLAGS might break things if configure also
decides to add the same or conflicting flags.
