I've been trying to test this on the Ubuntu 8.04 buildbot, but so far, using the latest hg default head, haven't gotten test_asyncio to hang even before the patch.  It also looks like the last 4 regular buildbot builds were fine too.  I even tried rolling back to one of the revisions that did fail a buildbot build, but it went ok as well.

I'm guessing it's just a timing or race condition but without some way to reproduce reliably, I can't say much about the patch.
