According to Google webmaster tools, the documentation has the following failings on mobile devices:

- The font size is too small. https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/UseLegibleFontSizes
- The viewport is not configured.
- Touch controls are too close together.

You can look at the complaints on (for example) https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.python.org%2F3%2Flibrary%2Ffunctions.html

Yes, the theme is anything but "responsive". If someone already knows how to do this, please step forward.

I guess it's not too hard to move the sidebar to the top/bottom on mobile, and adapt the font sizes.

There is already an enhanced theme: https://github.com/ionelmc/sphinx-py3doc-enhanced-theme

I will have a look at it.

You can see that theme in action at http://python-aspectlib.readthedocs.org/en/latest/

Are you ok with us copying parts of the enhancements?

Sure, take anything you want.

This issue should probably be addressed now on https://github.com/python/python-docs-theme

I created https://github.com/python/python-docs-theme/issues/30

This has been solved by the new theme. The Goolgle report linked above shows “Passed” and “96” (out of 100).
It does show a few opportunities to improve, but many seem to indirectly complain that the page is big.

I'm closing the issue.
