@jdemeyer, you didn't submit a patch, or give any hint that you _might_.  It _looked_ like you wanted other people to do all the work, based on a contrived example and a vague suggestion.

And we already knew from history that "a simple Bernstein hash suffices" is false for tuple hashing (for one possible meaning of "a simple Bernstein hash" - we had one of those 14 years ago).

Neither Raymond nor I want to spend time on this ourselves, so in the absence of somebody else volunteering to do the work, there's no reason to keep the report open uselessly.

If you're volunteering to do the work ... then do the work ;-)
