if the only concern is 32bit sparc, then please let's drop this in 3.6.

Looking at #28027 the new way to obsoleting things seems to be decreeing them (sorry about the sarcasm).  If I interpret your concerns correctly you care about platforms, which you are not supposed to care about. sparc32 doesn't have any use cases now, while ARM32 still has, and will have for some time.
