I've made some recent changes that affect SSL_connect(),
although the primary change is to improve the error
messages.  Dave and Martin, can you check the current code
on Solaris?  If it still fails, we'll at least get a clearer
error message.

BTW, does anyone have suggestions for how to test the code
with key and cert files?
